Summer TV Hangout: Week 11

The Simpsons – Season 6 “Grampa vs. Sexual Inadequacy” (B+) One of the sillier, less-remembered episodes of this great season finds Abe and Homer reunited, then separated, as snake-oil salesmen. It wouldn’t work if it weren’t so gut-busting for the first … Continue reading →

The Weekender: ‘Sea’ of Love

IN THEATERS: Elysium* (R) Starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley Written and directed by Neill Blomkamp Though not quite as sharp in its satire as it could have been, and certainly not as daringly original as District 9, this … Continue reading →

Random Thoughts on Season Five of Breaking Bad

I had originally planned to go through Season Five at a slow pace. But then I threw that out the window as a friend and I binged all eight episodes in one sitting. It worked perfectly, because it played out … Continue reading →

Summer TV Hangout: Week 9

The Simpsons – Season 6 “Lisa on Ice” (A-) For my money, The Simpsons remains the only show that had the exact ratio down for satirical and sweet. I love Lisa & Bart Competition episodes, even if, like all overused … Continue reading →
