What I Watched This Week: 12 June 2016

NEW SHOWS
Silicon Valley – “Bachman’s Earnings Override” (B+)
I knew T.J. Miller was a gifted comic actor. I just didn’t know he could give me the feels. Losing his stock options and getting absolutely nothing in return is something close to heartbreaking. This episode marks the return of Confident Richard, which is the best Richard. And Dinesh sings “I’m the Pied Piper,” wearing the ugliest jacket known to man.

Veep – “Camp David” (A-)
I never thought this show would take a cue from Three’s Company, but here we are. It’s also a lot like a Season Two episode of House of Cards, in that the U.S. has back-channel dealings with China that go awry. But homages/rip-offs aside, this is another wildly funny episode that reminds us how terrible Selina is as a parent, though at least she’s not as awful as Andrew. And Jonah literally shooting himself in the foot is the most predictable thing to ever happen, but still provides major laughs.

Check it Out! with Dr. Steve Brule – “Cars” (B+) / season premiere
As uncomfortable and wacky as ever, but John C. Reilly’s remote segments still kill.
