Movie of the Week
Transcendence
Wally Pfister, the Oscar-winning cinematographer of Inception and Moneyball either nails his directorial debut, a cyber-thriller, with nail-biting precision. Or it just completely falls off the rails, wasting its talented cast. I hope it’s the former.

Double Indemnity
Another week, another Billy Wilder classic. This is the film noir prototype, the very best example of its genre. Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck are simply magnificent as the frog and the scorpion, respectively. It’s dark, ugly but ultimately entertaining and rewarding. Hard to believe this came out 70 years ago.
