What I Watched This Week: 26 Apr 2015

NEW SHOWS
Brooklyn Nine-Nine – “AC/DC” (B)
The great run is over, but there’s still plenty to love here. Peralta & Boyle make a great pair as always, but pairing Rosa and Holt together is a stroke of genius. Their personalities might seem too similar, but their shared desire to reveal as little as possible works like gangbusters.

Community – “Intro to Recycled Cinema” (A-)
If it feels like a retread, that’s part of the joke. (See also: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s “The Gang Recycles Their Trash.”) Its filmmaking gags are familiar, but its third-act turn feels very poignant. “Haaaaammm, giiiiirrrrllll.”

OLD SHOWS
The Simpsons (Season 8) – “The Secret War of Lisa Simpson” (B+)
A solid season finale, one that was much better than I remembered. It’s filled with biting satire about our educational, criminal justice and military systems, but still heartfelt and hilarious. This is probably the last truly great season of The Simpsons, and it ends on a high note.
