What I Watched This Week: 22 Nov 2015

NEW SHOWS
Thanksgiving break means an interruption in our regularly scheduled programming. Coverage of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Fargo and The Mindy Project will resume next week.

CURRENT SHOWS
The Muppets – “Too Hot to Handler” (B+)
Scooter finally gets a moment to shine in a romantic plot that’s more moving than I thought it would be. Chelsea Handler is not someone I enjoy on any level, but I hope her relationship with Scooter lasts longer than this episode. The Kermit-Fozzie feud has more weight than it has any right to either, as Kermit insists on butting into Fozzie’s relationship because he thinks he knows Fozzie’s not mature enough to make a wise decision. This is despite Kermit’s own mess of a life. That’s a situation I’ve been in before.

OLD SHOWS
The Simpsons – “The Trouble with Trillions” (A-)
I’d make a strong case this is the flat-out funniest episode of Season 9, absurd as it is. Homer is recruited to take down Mr. Burns’ theft of $1,000,000,000 from the U.S. government. In return, he won’t have to go to jail for massive tax fraud. From Wiggum firing his gun every chance he gets, to Mr. Burns’ deadpan delivery of “Come in. Perhaps I have something I can scald you with,” to the government’s ineptitude (something The Simpsons would joke about time and time again), this episode had me in stitches.
