What I Watched This Week: 22 Dec 2013

CURRENT SHOWS:
Saturday Night Live — “Jimmy Fallon/Justin Timberlake” (B+)
The season’s best episode by a country mile. Some better songs from Timberlake and a reunion of “I Wish it was Christmas Today” would have pushed it even higher. Still, the two holiday-themed musical numbers brought the laughs.

OLD SHOWS:
Veep (Season 2) – “Hostages,” “The Vic Allen Dinner,” “Helsinki,” “Andrew,” “Shutdown,” “First Response,” “Running,” “D.C.” (average: A-)
The first two episodes of the season were quite good, but the start of the hostage scandal that served as the season’s backdrop took everything up a notch. It’s not quite as hilarious as season one, but the satire is next-level. The ensemble is superb, as to be expected. I wish they would have done a little more with Gary Cole, but there’s no show on TV this witty.
